OMPHALOS TALKS

Directions by Car

From the M4 (A46):

Take the A46 at J18 towards Bath. Follow the signs for Bath, until you're coming down a long hill on a dual carriageway. At the bottom, take the left lane to go up to the roundabout, and turn right (signed for Bath A4 & Warminster A36). From here, it's as from Chippenham (below).

From Chippenham (A4):

Take the A4 into Bath (signed for Bath A4 & Warminster A36), and follow the signs for All Routes.

After you've passed a Morrisons on the left & an Esso petrol station on the right, get into the right hand lane to go straight on at the next set of traffic lights.

100 yards or so after the lights, you'll come to a mini-roundabout - take the right hand exit (2nd exit, going slightly up the hill). Pass the Star Inn on the right hand side, and after 1/2 mile, you'll come to another set of traffic lights - get in the left hand lane to go straight on, into George Street.

From Warminster / Salisbury (A36):

Take the A36 into Bath, and follow the signs for All Routes & Bristol A4 (W).

At the set of traffic lights, turn right (signed Chippenham). After 300 yards or so, you'll go over a bridge and come to a set of traffic lights. Take the left filter to turn left, and 100 yards or so after the lights, you'll come to a mini-roundabout - take the right hand exit (2nd exit, going slightly up the hill). Pass the Star Inn on the right hand side, and after 1/2 mile, you'll come to another set of traffic lights - get in the left hand lane to go straight on, into George Street.

From George Street: Little Stanhope Street from Queens Square & Chippenham direction

View into Queen's SquareOnce into George Street, follow the road to the end, and follow it round to the right (right angle corner, and then downhill). 50 yards down this hill, there is another set of traffic lights, where you will want to go straight on onto Queens Square (a tree-lined green square with a war memorial in the centre - the entrance is shown in the photo on the left). Go round 3 sides of this - like a big roundabout - and take the next exit (signed for Bristol)).

New King Street entranceAfter around 100 yards, the road turns 45 degrees right, and widens out. Take the next left turn into Little Stanhope Street (see top right photo), and the next left into New King Street (see next photo), which leads to the Percy Community Centre on the left, towards the end.

From Bristol (A4): Little Stanhope Street from Weston & Bristol direction

At the end of the dual carriageway section of the A4 coming into Bath (after the Globe roundabout), take the left signed for Weston and RUH (Hospital). After a mile or so, there is a set of traffic lights with a road coming in from the right - follow straight on towards Bath. A couple of hundred yards further on, there is another set of traffic lights, with a turning right - again, go straight on towards Bath.

New King Street entranceAfter you pass the Argos store on the right hand side, take the second right (about 300 yards on - the first right is a no entry turning) into Little Stanhope Street (see photo to right), and the next left into New King Street (see next photo), which leads to the Percy Community Centre on the left, towards the end.

From Norton Radstock:

Take the A367 into Bath, and follow the signs for Bath. Follow the road right down the hill, and get into the left lane to turn left onto the Lower Bristol Road (signed Bristol, on either the A4 or A36). Follow this road straight on, over 2 sets of traffic lights (the Sainsbury's roundabout), and at the next set of traffic lights, take the right turn over Windsor Bridge. Turn Right onto the Upper Bristol Road, and follow the directions from Weston.

Parking

Parking in Bath is tricky at the best of times, as is the one way system. There are a few parking bays (free on Sundays) outside the Percy Community Centre, and if you take the left just past the centre (up a tiny side-road) this leads you onto Monmouth Place, where there is free parking. If these are full, then the map below has marked on where there is free parking on Sundays.

Parking Map

Blue lines are areas of free parking (correct at time of uploading, but check the signs as they change every so often! Don't park in permit holder bays, as these are reserved for residents...) The Parking symbols are car parks which cost £2 for up to 4 hours on Sundays. Best of Luck!
